Pregnancy can be such an exciting time. It can also be a time of uncertainty for women who are pregnant with their first child. East Brunswick, NJ area women who are seeking a professional to help guide them through this journey to motherhood will want to work with the providers at GYN Choices to have regular evaluations and discuss their needs. This is especially true during the second trimester when the baby begins to grow at a more rapid pace.
What can I expect in the second trimester of pregnancy?
By the second trimester, your baby will be growing quickly. You may begin to feel more comfortable as your pregnancy progresses and your energy levels increase. However, you may also experience some new discomforts, such as backaches, leg cramps, constipation and heartburn.
As your baby grows, you may notice that your skin stretches and becomes itchy. You may also notice darkening of the skin around your nipples (areola) and linea negra (a dark line running down the center of your abdomen). These changes are all normal and should disappear after you give birth.
You will also probably start to feel your baby move (kick, wiggle and somersault) during this trimester. Some women can feel their baby’s movements as early as 16 weeks, but most women don’t feel them until later in the second trimester. If you haven’t felt your baby move by 24 weeks, it might be a good time to schedule an appointment at GYN Choices to have an evaluation performed.
In addition to the physical changes you’re experiencing, you may also be feeling a range of emotions. You may be anxious about the birth or excited about meeting your baby. You may also be feeling mood swings, fatigue or nausea. Remember that all of these feelings are normal – just take things one day at a time.
