Who Is Eligible for a Medical Abortion?
Medical abortion is a nonsurgical way to receive an abortion. Medical abortions work by using two medications to end a pregnancy. At GYN Choices of Central Jersey, we determine your eligibility for a medical abortion by confirming through an ultrasound that you are 10 weeks or less along.
Who Is Not Eligible for a Medical Abortion?
Unfortunately, we are not able to offer our medical abortion services to everyone who walks through our doors. The number one reason that wouldn’t allow you to get a medical abortion is if you are more than 63 days pregnant. Additionally, there are a few other conditions that could make you ineligible, including:
- If you are on blood thinners or have a bleeding disorder
- If you have an ectopic pregnancy, where the egg is growing outside of the uterus
- If you are suffering from a serious medical condition
Who Can Get a Surgical Abortion?
Fortunately, if you are not a candidate for a medical abortion, you still have the option to receive a surgical abortion. This type of abortion is quick and effective as it works by gently suctioning to end the pregnancy and only takes up to five minutes. Generally, anyone who is 12 weeks or less can receive a surgical abortion at GYN Choices of Central Jersey.
